Revitalization and Repair: Addressing American Indian Health Disparities
Revitalization and Repair: Addressing American Indian Health Disparities
Thursday, November 13, 7-8:30 p.m. free on Zoom
This is the next workshop in the HCFAO Equity Committee’s Listen, Learn, Empower series addressing healthcare and health disparities for traditionally marginalized communities.
In Revitalization and Repair: Addressing American Indian Health Disparities we will pursue a holistic understanding of health in Native American communities on the individual and community level. We will look at the health needs and disparities for Native Americans living on reservations, in urban areas, and in rural areas as well as the modes of healthcare seeking to address those needs. In accordance with the purpose of HCFAO we will seek to learn if and how a nationalized, single payer healthcare system would benefit Native Americans.
Our speakers will be Stephanie Iron Shooter, BA, (Sicangu/Aaniiih), American Indian Health Advocate and Advisor, and Kathy Masis, MA, BSN, MD, whose experience includes working for the Indian Health Services on the Navajo Reservation, Tuba City, Arizona, and on the reservations in Montana and Wyoming.
