A Movement Built by Ohioans
SPAN Ohio began in 2001 when a small group of Ohio activists came together with a common belief: incremental changes weren’t enough. Ohio needed fundamental healthcare reform.
Over the years, that effort grew into a statewide coalition of organizations and individuals committed to single-payer healthcare.
Today, we’re continuing that work.
The healthcare system won’t change itself. We have to organize for change.
We Believe Healthcare Is a Human Right.
Healthcare for All Ohioans (SPAN Ohio) is a statewide coalition of Ohioans working to transform our healthcare system.
Our goal is simple:
Everyone in Ohio should have comprehensive healthcare. This needs to happen regardless of their income, job, age, health, or ability to pay.
We believe the best path to that future is single-payer healthcare: a publicly funded system that guarantees care for everyone without copays or deductibles.
A Healthcare System That Works for Everyone
We envision an Ohio where healthcare is there when you need it, not something you have to earn, afford, or fight for.
Universal coverage should include:
- Medical care
- Prescription drugs
- Dental care
- Vision care
- Mental healthcare
- Home and long-term care
- Care for injuries and illnesses
No one should have to choose between their health and their financial security.

Achieving healthcare for all will take more than good ideas. It will take people organizing together.
HCFAO is a democratic coalition. Our members and supporters come together to:
Mobilize – Take action through petitions, public meetings, community organizing, and legislative campaigns.
Educate – Share information and build public understanding of single-payer healthcare.
Organize – Bring together patients, healthcare workers, unions, community groups, and advocates.
Advocate – Build public and legislative support for fundamental healthcare reform.
