Addressing Barriers to Care for Persons with Disabilities

A continuation of our Health Equity Workshop series, please join us to discuss the disparities in health outcomes among persons with disabilities, their barriers to care, and how a single payer healthcare system would help to alleviate some of those barriers.

We are joined by Dr. Amanda Hinson-Enslin, an assistant professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences of the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University, who will lead our discussion. We will also be joined by a panel of persons with hearing disabilities who will share their stories of interacting with the US healthcare system. ASL interpreters and closed captioning will be available.

Dr. Amanda Hinson-Enslin is an assistant professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences of the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology, health promotion, health education, and health program planning and evaluation. She is a member of the American Public Health Association’s Public Health Education and Health Promotion section and Disability section. She is the chair of the Advocacy subcommittee for Public Health Education and Health Promotion section and a member of the Membership Engagement and Professional Development subcommittees. She is also a member of Wright State’s Digital Accessibility Committee. Her research focuses on identifying and addressing health disparities among individuals with disabilities through health promotion programs.
