To kick off our 2008 petition campaign SPAN Ohio will be joining the OHIO EMPOWERMENT COALITION RALLY for "Safe & Stable Families Campaign for Kinship Care, Poverty Reduction & Health Care” on the High Street side of the Statehouse beginning at 11:45 a.m.

After marching around the capitol, we will walk to the Ohio Association of Health Plans at 230 East Town Street, where SPAN Ohio will hold an action from 12:30 pm. until 1:30 p.m.

SPAN's Kick-Off Campaign begins during “Cover the Uninsured Week," a national campaign to call attention to the plight of the uninsured. We're working to put the Health Care For All Ohioans Act on the ballot in 2009. This initiative will replace for-profit, private health insurance with a single, publicly administered, not-for-profit fund which will pay all the health care bills of every Ohioan.

According to a recent report by Families USA, every day two Ohioans die due to lack of health insurance, which means that EACH WEEK 14 "UNCOVERED" OHIOANS DIE BECAUSE THEY CANNOT AFFOD HEALTH CARE.
